1 Kings 2:1-12
1 Chronicles 29:10-12
What….me? In our gospel today we read that Jesus sent His twelve apostles out to carry forth His mission. And when they go, they were to take nothing with them but what they minimally need, and they were to rely on the goodness of others to provide them with a place to rest and meals. Wow. That must have taken the apostles by surprise. And yet they went.
Were they excited at the thought of sharing the teachings of Jesus? Were they unsure of their calling? Did they think they could really cast out demons and heal people? Were they excited about having the ability to do so? Thinking the answer to all of those questions is yes.
We are called in the same way. The calling of Jesus takes us to places we never imagined we would or could go. By keeping Jesus at the center of all that we do, we will always be led in the right direction. Our excitement to share the mission of Jesus should help us get out of bed every day and be looking forward to a joy-filled day of knowing that Jesus will take care of us. Whatever comes our way…sickness, financial issues, family issue…doesn’t matter…Jesus will take care of us. So get ready!
Now, Jesus also knows that just as the apostles would be turned away from some homes, there will be people who don’t want to hear us share the message of Jesus. There will be people in our lives who do not want the good for us. That’s ok, leave them behind. Jesus has exciting things planned for us! What does Jesus want you to do today? Have at it!
Now go smile real big at God today!
