Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the
O God, who on this day,
through your Only Begotten Son,
have conquered death
and unlocked for us the path to eternity,
grant, we pray, that we who keep
the solemnity of the Lord’s Resurrection
through the renewal brought by your Spirit,
rise up in the light of life.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
We are witnesses
Here’s the thing: Today it doesn’t matter what Mary saw, what Peter thought, what the other disciple understood on Easter morning. It doesn’t matter that they were able to say, with absolute conviction, “We have seen the Lord!” What matters on this particular Easter Sunday is the testimony that you and I are able to give. We cannot simply repeat the witness of others. We must testify to what we have seen and experienced ourselves. This means we have to go down to the empty places in our lives and seek and find the Risen Lord there.
This is the Easter message, that awakening is possible, to the goodness of God, the sacredness of human life, the sisterhood and brotherhood of all.
Do not abandon yourselves to despair. We are an Easter people and hallelujah is our song.
—Pope John Paul II
What's in Your Heart?
The late Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury Michael Ramsey once said, “No Resurrection, no Christianity.” On this most solemn and joyous feast of Christ’s victory over sin and death, what does Jesus’ Resurrection say to you?
What are the “things above” Colossians said we should seek? How do you seek them?
Where have you seen the Lord? Where do you find the presence of Christ?
So that at all times we may “think of what is above,” let us ask God to receive our prayers.
Christ is risen. Let the church constantly seek to renew itself in the Spirit of the new life of Easter, we pray, Lord, hear our prayer.
Christ offered his peace to each of us. Let us work for inner peace and world peace, we pray, Lord, hear our prayer.
Christ gives forgiveness to all who believe in him. Let those alienated from God and others find faith and reconciliation, we pray, Lord, hear our prayer.
Christ sent his disciples to preach. Let us share the good news we have received with others, we pray, Lord, hear our prayer.
The risen Christ is our life. May we participate in the divine life through these our prayers, in the name of Jesus who is anointed with power and the Spirit.
Look upon your Church, O God,
with unfailing love and favor,
renewed by the paschal mysteries,
she may come to the glory of
Through Christ our Lord.
Go in peace, alleluia, alleluia.
